Harold Schubert Obituary

Harold Lewis Schubert, 93, of Tiffin, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at his home.  Harold has now seen the face of God.

He was born on February 9, 1927, in Bloomville, Ohio, to Paul and Ella (Dolch) Schubert.  On December 20, 1947, he married Laura Lou Graham.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Laura Lou Schubert of Tiffin; daughters, Jane Schubert of Tiffin and Marcia (Marshall) Blue of Norwalk; sister, Kathryn M. Gettys of Attica; grandchildren, Kelly (Shafter) Baker of Kendallville, Indiana, Bryan Blue of Norwalk, Timothy (Diane) Hoover of Battlecreek,  MI and Douglas (Carrie) Hoover of Fostoria; step grandson, Steve (Jane) Hoover of Tiffin; and numerous great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lois Hoover; and brothers, Alvin Schubert and Vernon Schubert; and step grandsons, Jamie and Jerry Hoover.

Harold’s youth was spent on the family farm East of Tiffin where he could run and laugh with his siblings.  He attended Republic High School and at the age of 18 enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II.  He was assigned to the USS Pondera for his entire military enlistment.  Harold worked for National Machinery Company in the Milling Department for 36 years; retiring in 1989.  He was a faithful member of his church, both in Bradenton, Florida, as well as Tiffin, Ohio being recognized in 2011 by ONECO United Methodist Church, Florida, for 43 years as a certified Lay Servant. He was a 73 year member of the American Legion Post #169. 

During his working years, he kept a home on Indian Lake where he fished on the calm water.  Harold lived most of his retirement in Bradenton, Florida where he and his wife enjoyed the sunshine for 26 years before returning to Tiffin in 2017.

He was an avid woodworker and always kept his workshop well stocked with tools and wood.  Harold lovingly made a multitude of wooden objects that he gave away to anyone who desired one.

A private service will take place at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory.  Burial will be at 11:45 A.M. on Monday, April 6, 2020 at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to F.A.C.T., The Armes Family Cancer Center in Findlay  or to Faith United Methodist Church.
