Hugh E. Rathburn, 73, of Tiffin, passed away Monday morning, June 1, 2020 at the Ohio State James Cancer Center in Columbus.
On October 8, 1946 in Tiffin, he was born to Allen O. and Ann M. (Withrow) Rathburn. He married Patricia J. Hoerig on December 22, 1966.
Survivors include his wife Pat of Tiffin; sons, Brad (Janine Meisner) Rathburn of Tiffin; Doug (Erynn) Rathburn and their children, Greta and Jensen “J.B.” Rathburn of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allen O. Rathburn, mother, Ann M. Heilman, stepfathers, Eldon Nye and Alfred Heilman and brother, Charles Alford.
Hugh was a dedicated member and supporter of First Lutheran Church and a 1966 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. After graduation, he joined the US Army stationed in Fort McClellan, Alabama and Fort Knox, Kentucky and returned to Tiffin where he worked at General Electric for over 20 years until they closed in 1986. He earned his Associate Degree from Terra Technical College and continued working at National Machinery and Webster Manufacturing before retiring. He was a member of Tiffin Masonic Lodge, No. 77, F.& A.M., American Legion Post 169 and Tiffin Moose. Hugh enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, creating and completing home projects, projects with his sons and being a Boy Scout Leader. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and cherished the trips to Iowa to visit them.
His funeral service will be Friday, June 5, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Clayton Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Military Honor conducted by the Seneca County United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit on Thursday, June 4, 2020 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
