James B. "Jim" Mangus, 77, of Republic, passed away after a long battle with cancer, on Wednesday evening, March 16, 2022 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born on September 26, 1944, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Joseph Warren and Louise (Whitmer) Mangus Sr. On August 31, 1965, he married Sandra Osterwalder.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Mangus of Republic; son, Jeff Mangus; daughters, Wendy (Don) Carrick and Dawn McGinty; brother, Bill (Lynette) Mangus; sisters, Helen Thompson, Denise (Fred) Sauber and Liz (Tom) Ellis;; sister-in-law, Rosie Mangus; five grandchildren, Miranda (Craig) Bordner, Colton (Haley) Carrick, Emily (Jay) Myers, Kourtney (Kylin) Elswick and Max McGinty; and six great grandchildren, Quinn Bordner, Cooper Carrick, Kadin Elswick, Raelyn Carrick, Knox Elswick and Jackson Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Joseph W. Mangus, Jr. and Richard Terry.
Jim worked as a Journeyman Millwright, retiring from Chrysler Toledo Machining. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, and especially enjoyed the outdoors. Jim liked to go mushroom hunting, fishing and deer hunting. He also loved to share memories with others of his time in Alaska.
However, spending his Golden Years with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was Jim’s greatest joy. “Grandpa, we will meet you again someday in the treehouse.”
There will not be any services at this time for Jim as the family is planning a Celebration of Life for a later date.
