James B. "Jim" Wagner, 87, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, May 2, 2021 at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima.
On August 21, 1933 in Tiffin, he was born to Frank and Leona (Rumschlag) Wagner and married Phyllis Love on September 28, 1957.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis of 63 years and was a loving, humble, and patient father of four daughters; Sue Messinger of Tiffin; Karen Wagner of Fishers, IN; twins, Julie (Rob) Schickman of Ossining, NY and Jennifer (Rob) Miller of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Haley Schickman and Sheridan and Carson Miller. Jim is also survived by two sisters, Eileen Metzger of Fostoria and Rose Riester of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Walter “Whitey”, Paul, Charles, and Louis Wagner; a sister, Ginny Kubasek and a son in law, Jeff Messinger.
Jim was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister, adult server, reader, a member of the Serra Club for over 60 years. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953, serving in Japan and was discharged in 1955. Jim was a partner of Wagner Flower Shop and Greenhouse for over 60 years. He was a skilled floral designer who was excited about flowers. Jim’s creativity and talents went beyond the floral shop, he was a skilled craftsman and woodworker. He enjoyed singing, collecting rocks from around the country, and he will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, AmVets Post 48 and member of Allen Eiry Senior Center, YMCA, volunteered as an usher at the Ritz Theatre.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating and will be livestreamed at www.tiffinstjoseph.org. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 9:30-11:00 AM at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Calvert Catholic Schools or to the Serra Club.
