James Russell “Jim” Kimmel, 86, of Tiffin, passed away on Saturday afternoon, December 09, 2023 at Tiffin Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on December 01, 1937, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, to Wayne A. and Dorothy R. (Hutchinson) Kimmel.  On January 06, 1957, he married Joanne Bordner.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Kimmel of Tiffin; sons, James “Rick” Kimmel of Ameilia and Michael (Cherie) Kimmel of North Baltimore; daughters, Louise (Mark) Sommer of Shelby and Virginia (Steven) Cochie of Tiffin; brothers, Donald (Clarice) Kimmel of Florida, and Gene (Barbara) Kimmel of Findlay; sister, Della Lenhart; six grandchildren, Amanda (Rick) Birenbaum, Chris (Missy) Cochie, Sandra (Steven) McCoy, Matthew Sommer, Marina (Danny) Crouse and Jordan Kimmel; 5 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Margy Wenner

Jim graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School and the Toledo Barber College.  After barbering for 16 years, he went to work for The Nationwide Insurance Co. where he retired after 34 years.  While at Nationwide he became a member of the President’s Club.  He was a life member of the Tiffin Kiwanis Club where he served as President and Treasurer and was Lt. Governor for Kiwanis in Ohio. Jim was also a trustee for the B.A. Seitz Foundation, the American Red Cross and the Tiffin United Way.  He received the George F. Hixon Award, Past International president and the Walter Zeller Awards from Kiwanis.  He also served as the Ohio chairman for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation. 

Jim was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, life member of the Tiffin Columbian Alumni Association, was an avid bowler and golfer for more than 50 years.

His Celebration of Life service will be on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at Faith United Methodist Church, 75 N Sandusky St, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, with pastors Amy Vittorio and Gary Hicks officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or to The Tiffin Kiwanis Foundation.
