Janet L. Herbert

Janet L. Herbert, 71, of Tiffin, passed away Friday morning, August 27, 2021 at her home.

On January 26, 1950, in Tiffin, she was born to Louis and Marjorie (Elchert) Herbert and they preceded her in death.

She is survived by her cat, Cheddar; sister, Lois (David) Bihn of Tiffin; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Terry Nesselhauf of Tiffin; and close friend, Joyce Freeze of Green Springs.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; brothers; William and James; and sister, Joan Nesselhauf.

Janet was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 1968 graduate of St. Francis High School.  She furthered her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Ohio Dominican College in Columbus in 1974 and a Master of Pastoral Studies from Loyola University in New Orleans in 2002.  Her teaching career began at St. Mary Catholic School in Mansfield, St. Peter Catholic School in Upper Sandusky and St. Michael Catholic School in Findlay before teaching at St. Martin de Porres School and St Hedwig School in Toledo for over 24 years.  She later retired from Lourdes College in Toledo after several years.

She enjoyed sewing, baking and watching the Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians, especially Omar Vizquel.  She was a member of Allen Eiry Senior Center and the Cousins Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  Friends may visit one hour prior to the Mass at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Calvert Catholic Schools or to Allen Eiry Senior Center.
