Joallen "Joe" Smith Obituary

Joallen ‘Joe” Smith, 92, of Tiffin, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital. 

He was born on August 13, 1929, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Ralph and Pauline (Siegrist) Smith.  On September 10, 1950, he married Dorothy Mellott. 

Survivors include his wife of over 71 years, Dorothy Smith of Tiffin; son, Michael (Amy) Smith of Tiffin; daughter, Dr. Kathy Smith of Grand Blanc, MI; six grandchildren, Abrie, Ryder, Brett, Chad, Kristy and Mindy, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry J. Smith; infant daughter, Karen Smith; brothers, Wendell, James, Donald, Ralph Smith, Jr. and a sister, Betty Deason. 

Joe served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He lived in Fort Seneca for 36 years and retired in 1985 from Basic Refractories after 35 years.  After retirement, Joe worked at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home for 11 years.  He was a member of First Christian Church and enjoyed fixing things, trips to the Amish Country, traveling out West, cruising and taking care of his yard.  Joe was very handy, building three of his own houses, remodeling homes for himself and others. 

Private services for the family and burial at Fairmont Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Seneca County United Veterans Council.
