Larry R Phelps

Larry R. Phelps, 73, of Tiffin, passed away on Friday evening, October 15, 2021 at St. Francis Home.

He was born on February 25, 1948, in Tiffin, Ohio to Robert and Goldie (Tusing) Phelps. On November 1, 1980, he married Margaret Hoover.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Phelps of Tiffin; stepson, Jeffrey (Mara) Hoover and grandson, Jace Hoover of Granville, OH; son, Mark Phelps of Lima, OH; daughter, Amy Phelps of Fort Wayne, IN; brother, Garry (Carol) Phelps of Fostoria, OH; sister-in-law, Jeannine Phelps of Arizona; niece, Staci Reiter of Fostoria; and nephews, Dayton Phelps of Iowa and Robert Phelps of Jackson Center, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alvin Phelps.

Larry was a 1969 graduate of Columbian High School and served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. He was a member of the Eagles and the Amvets. He worked as a fork truck mechanic for 23 years at Excel Wire & Cable, and more than 10 years at Stylecrest in Fremont, OH.

Following retirement, Larry focused more time on his hobbies, such as working on his ’57 Chevy, and going to classic car shows and swap meets. He was an amazing woodworker, could build or repair almost anything, enjoyed giving advice and sharing his expertise with family and friends. Larry also enjoyed spending time with his furry companion, Timmy, who was often at his side no matter where they were.

Friends may visit with the family from 6-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio. His funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
