Larry L. Shaferly, 84, of Tiffin, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Elmwood at the Shawhan.
He was born on May 24, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio to Wayne G. and Mary Jane (Slack) Shaferly. On October 25, 1958, he married Marilyn K. Swope.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Shaferly of Tiffin; sons, Daniel (Donna) Shaferly of Tiffin and Jeff (Dawn) Shaferly of Toledo; daughters, Teresa (Paul) Jones of Tiffin and Debora (Jeff) Hammer of Fostoria; sisters, Shirley (Allan) Schreiner of Republic and Bonnie (Mike) Oberlander of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry graduated in 1955 from Tiffin Columbian High School and served in the United States Air Force where he was a jet mechanic, trained obedience dogs, coached W.A.B.S. and played baseball. He worked at Leo Schoen Construction and then worked at General Electric until 1986, retiring after 30 years. Larry owned Sunny Hill Kennel for years, raising Golden Retrievers and Alaskan Malamute, started the Moosketer Baton and Drum Corp. and helped start Tiffin Little League Football. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin Moose #846, the Izaak Walton League and enjoyed fishing, playing baseball, gardening and vacationing around the United States.
His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
