L.D. Haefer, Jr. “Louie”, 91, of Bettsville, passed Saturday morning, August 29, 2020, at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont.
He was born on August 17, 1929, in Chatfield, Ohio, to Clarence and Mildred (Cole) Haefer. On August 25, 1951, he married Norma Jeanne Hoover.
Survivors include his son, Michael “Mike” Haefer of Bettsville; three daughters, Diane Cooper of Fostoria, Debra (Lance) Kaufman of Bettsville and Karen (Mark) Carter of Fremont; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 4 great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma Haefer; sister, Margie Dern; and son-in-law, James Cooper, II.
Louie served in the United States Air Force from 1946 to 1947 and worked at Basic as a combustion Engineer for 30 years. He enjoyed sprint car races at Attica and Fremont, was an inspector at Fremont Raceway and part owner of a race car. Louie was a lifetime member of the Bettsville American Legion Post 733, Tiffin Moose 846 and Knights of Columbus #608, Tiffin and also enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling out West, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and loved spending time with his family.
His Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Matthew Rader officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the funeral home.
