“You started in His heart….
Were created by His hands….
And were presented to the World as a gift.
That makes it so easy to celebrate you today
And why you brought so much joy all the other days too.”
Luella E. Wright, 99, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2020 at Elmwood at the Shawhan.
She was born on March 15, 1921, in New Riegel, to James H. and Agatha (Wagner) Kimmet. On February 8, 1941, in St. Mary Catholic Church, she married Paul J. Wright and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1997.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Steve) Schafer of Tiffin; sons, Ron (Suzette) Wright of Brighton, MI and Ric ((Shirley) Wright of Tiffin; son-in-law, Ron Burkett of Tiffin; six grandchildren, Fayanne (Daniel) Corfman of Fremont, Victoria (Troy) Stillberger of Sycamore, Aaron (Shantelle) Burkett of Tiffin, David (Staci) Wright of Beavercreek, Brian (Nurgul) Wright of Worthington and Laura (Alex) Wright-Motter of Lima; and nine great grandchildren, Christine Corfman, Trace Elling Cockerell, Ethan Wright, Kobe Stillberger, Colin Burkett, Amy Corfman, Kyle Stillberger, Lily Wright and Sydney Wright.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Burkett; granddaughter, Staci Biller; grandsons, Jeffrey Stephen Schafer and Kyle Patrick Wright; great granddaughter, Megan Meyer; sister, Anna Marie Cole; and brothers, Alvin Kimmet and Paul Kimmet.
Luella graduated from Tiffin Calvert in 1939. She married Paul and worked side by side building a home on Prospect Street and running Paul’s Grocery. In 1965, they built and ran Paul's delicatessen where she was known as "Mrs. Paul". In 1968, they added on and developed the first drive-thru in Tiffin. In 1973, they moved to a farm, south of town where they built a home, raised and boarded horses and ran a Sand Pit business.
After Paul died, Luella did volunteer work, going to nursing homes with Allen Eiry to play bingo, St. Paul’s Sharing Kitchen, and enjoyed wood carving with Jerry Hill and Kent Cartwright, making wedding cakes for her children and grandchildren, looked forward to making noodles for St. Joseph Festival and continued to mow her lawn and split wood. (Paul had built a splitter in the barn run by a tractor) She would put the split wood into the basket of her tractor and stack it outside the house to burn for the winter. She hunted groundhogs with .22. She and her sister-in-law, Sue (Wright) Kuhlman, took a hot air balloon ride in 2011 and she showed remarkable strength thru rehab when she broke her knee in 2014! She looked forward to Wednesday evenings….”Granny's night”, when her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and whoever came out to join in conversation.
Luella was in and out of St. Francis several times and entered Elmwood at the Shawhan in 2018.
A Celebration of Life will be from 1-4:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the AmVets, 1909 S. SR 100, Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
