Margaretta V. "Gretta" (Steyer) Covert

Margaretta V. “Gretta” Covert, 74, of Tiffin, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at her home.

She was born on May 24, 1947, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Richard and Georgia May (McGlaughlin) Steyer.  On June 27, 1970, she married John L. Covert.

Survivors include her husband, John L. Covert of Tiffin; daughters, Rebecca (Michael) McBride of Piscataway, NJ, Crystal (Harry) Joseph of Findlay and Jennifer (Joe) Jordan of Tiffin; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Dyllan, Hailey, Cole, Kendalyn, Leyna and Matthew; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Lenard Steyer.

Gretta graduated in 1965 from Mohawk High School and attended Tiffin University.  She was a member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church and formerly of Faith United Methodist Church (Ebenezer). After raising her children, she worked at Old Fort Bank in Old Fort for more than 15 years and volunteered at VITA as an income tax assistant.  She enjoyed doing taxes for the elderly and low income families.  Gretta was on the music boosters for Old Fort Schools, served as a Trustee at Ebenezer Church and was a member of the Knights Templar Ladies Club.  Gretta enjoyed crafts, singing in the church choir, traveling to see family around the U.S, vacationing, bus trips, her dog, Shiloh, spending time with her family and helping others. 

Her Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424, with Pastor Gary Hicks officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery (Egbert’s).

Friends may visit with the family from 2-5:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.
