Marie Breidenbach Obituary

Heaven received a new angel on Saturday, February 8, 2020 and now she’s back with the love of her life.

Marie R. Breidenbach (Zoeller) passed away peacefully at St. Francis Nursing Home. Born on May 2, 1923 in Tiffin, Ohio to Francis and Anna (Clouse) Zoeller, she was one of 13 children.  On June 6, 1946, she married Arthur Breidenbach once he returned from World War II after being stationed in Germany.

She was preceded in death by Arthur, who passed away last August at the age of 100.  She is survived by her son, Larry Breidenbach of Tiffin; daughters, Shirley (Jerry) Vilinsky of Sun City Center, Florida and North Royalton, Ohio and Denise (Scott) Walsh of Holland, Ohio; brothers, Bernard (Jean) Zoeller and Bro. Maurus Zoeller O.S.B; in-laws Tom (Joyce) Breidenbach, Susie (Phil) Hohman and Christine Breidenbach; grandchildren Leah (Ryan) Oldendick, Drew (Kirsten) Vilinsky, Jonathon and Madison Walsh; great grandchildren, Ty Oldendick and Therese Vilinsky; and dozens of nieces, nephews and godchildren whom she adored dearly.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elmer (Maxine), Herman (Marie), Ernest (Angela), Alfred (Louella) and Francis Jr. (Pat); and sisters, Wilheminia (Alfred) Smith, Erma (Robert) Houck, Marcella Zoeller, Dorene Zoeller and Emma (Richard) Hoover; and in-laws, Rita (Clete) Brickner, Alma “Dolly” Moffet and Paul Breidenbach.

Marie and Art enjoyed a wonderful life together that was rich with love. They took great pride in their children and grandchildren, with whom they cherished spending time with as much as possible. Actually, Art and Marie both were born and raised on farms across the road from each other.  Marie met the love of her life at a one-room schoolhouse.  Art and Marie traded pencils and the rest is history. They wintered in Palmetto, Florida upon Art’s retirement from National Machinery in 1979. They developed lifelong friendships with other residents of Tree Lakes Resort. Marie was always the Queen of the Resort as she was the Social chair for many years where her tea parties are still talked about today.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society as were many of the other women at Tree Lakes. They loved getting dressed up in their best attire and enjoyed tea together.  Art was usually the maître d’ and donned his tuxedo per Marie’s “request”.

Marie gave so much of her time volunteering at St. Joseph School as the recess monitor and in the cafeteria as well as at the Betty Jane Center. She was always very kind and giving. She loved giving gifts, flowers and her homemade goodies. She also loved playing cards, in particular euchre, bridge and kings in the corner not to mention her passion for shopping.  In addition, she enjoyed her working life with both General Electric and Tiffin Glass, which she particularly enjoyed collecting Tiffin Glass throughout her life and was very proud of her collection.

But no one in her family will ever forget her garage sales nor her countless appearances on Tiffin Tradio. While many questioned the accounting of her sales, Art always said these garage sales always cost more than when she goes shopping with the money I saw she made.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of St. Francis for their loving care.  In particular, Laura, Melissa, Judy and Crystal from the Chiara Center who treated Marie as though she was part of their families.  They are also very appreciative of the care Marie received from Dr. Vela and his staff as well as her special caregiver, Diane Weisenhauer. And a very special thank you to Father Joe Szybka and Father Frank Murd who always held a special place in Marie’s heart as they helped guide Marie’s faith with their love and support. Both Art and Marie were extremely faithful Catholics and members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin.

Her Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
