Marion Drake Obituary

Marion O. Drake, Jr., 84, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital.

He was born on February 27, 1936, in Bloomville, Ohio, to Marion O. and Alma Mary (Hildebrand) Drake, Sr.  He married Joyce E. Schatzinger on May 1, 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce E. Drake of Tiffin; son, Michael G. Drake of Columbus; daughters, Rosemary L. (Mark) Cullison of Columbus, Catherine M. (David Cullinan) McIntyre of Dublin and Theresa D. (Kris) Fuller of Hiram; stepson, Dan (Susan Novins) Schatzinger of Tiffin; stepdaughter, Pam Ley of Norwalk; 14 grandchildren (1 deceased); and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph Drake and Harold Drake; sisters, Doris R. Drake and Ethol Jumper; stepson, Tim Schatzinger; and grandson, Andrew Schatzinger.

Marion graduated in 1954 from Melmore High School and served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1960.  He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 30 years, teaching safe boating courses. He was a service technician for Columbia Gas for 30 years and a Realtor for 25 years.  Marion was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he was a trustee and volunteered for anything that needed to be done.  He was also a 70-year member of the Grange and a member of Eagles #402, Elks Lodge 94, AmVets Post 48 and Moose Lodge 846.  In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and boating on Lake Erie, bowling and was a 44-year survivor of multiple cancers.

A private service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Marilyn Coney officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Jacob’s Cemetery, Republic with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.   A celebration of life will be held this summer for all to attend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a local Veteran’s organization.
