Mark Hayes Obituary

Mark Hayes, 63, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 10, 2019 at his home.

He was born on October 18, 1955 to John and Mary Alice (Kreisheimer) Hayes.  On July 2, 1983, he married the love of his life Mary Patricia “Patty” Chill.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Hayes of Tiffin; son, Thomas (Erin) Hayes of Troy, Ohio; daughter, Mary Kate (fiancé, Jacki Kunzler) Hayes of Tiffin; brother, John T. (Nique) Hayes of Massachusetts; and sisters, Michele (Malcolm) Marchman of CO, Sally (Kent) Makulinski of Elmore and Melissa (Bill) Rinker of Pemberville; dozens of nieces and nephews who he adored.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mark graduated in 1974 from Bowling Green High School and in 1980 from Bowling Green State University.  In 1989, Mark and his family moved to Tiffin from Bowling Green and he worked for many years in banking.  He currently worked at North Central Ohio Educational Service Center, working with students at the Old Fort Elementary Bettsville Campus and served as President on Tiffin City Council.   Mark was appointed to the City Council in September of 1999 and was re-elected for three terms.  He was chairman of the Finance Committee and served as council’s representative to Seneca Regional Planning Commission.

Mark was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, co-chaired the festival for years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #608.  He coached Little League Baseball, Calvert and Bettsville softball and was the voice of the Calvert Seneca’s, announcing volleyball, football, basketball and other special events.

Mark was an Ohio State fan but after decades of convincing from The Chill’s became an avid Notre Dame fan, enjoyed golfing, traveling, hiking, even reaching the summit of Mt. Elbert in Colorado, walks with his wife and granddogs, Jackson and Rocky and loved being outdoors. He volunteered at St. Francis Farms and gardening at The Frost Parkway.

Mark was passionate about the City of Tiffin, was very caring, positive and always had a smile.

His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  A Rosary will begin 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
