Mary-Ann "Marcie" Funkhouser Obituary

Mary-Ann (Marcie) L. Funkhouser, 76, Tiffin, died on March 14, 2020 at the Cleveland Clinic surrounded by her family following a battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Mary-Ann was born on July 7, 1943 in Fitchburg, MA to the late Maurice and Nathalie (Belcher) Leavitt. She married Robert A. “Bob” Funkhouser on November 26, 1965 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, and he survives.

She is also survived by four children, Robert S. (Jeri Ballard) of Wassenaar, The Netherlands, Bradley (Jennifer Kulick) of Lansing, MI, Katrena (Brian) Hemenway of West Lebanon, NH, and Kendra (Andy) Foos of Edgemoor, SC.; a brother, Kenneth Leavitt of Ossipee, NH and a sister, Elizabeth Bevins of Danvers, MA. And seven grandchildren, Nicholas Funkhouser, of Westland, MI, Michael Funkhouser of Santa Monica, CA, Natalie, Anthony and Amy Foos of Edgemoor, SC, Drew Henmenway, of West Lebanon, NH and Logynn Funkhouser, of Wassenaar, The Netherlands.

In addition to her parents, Mary-Ann was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice “Skip” Leavitt Jr. of Wakefield, MA.

Mary-Ann grew up in Wolfeboro, NH and was known as “Posey” to friends and family. She graduated from Brewster Academy High School, Wolfeboro, NH in 1961 and later attended the Winthrop Community Hospital nursing school near Boston. After meeting the love of her life, she settled in Tiffin to raise a family and work at Mercy Hospital until the birth of her second child at which point she stayed home to focus on being a full-time mom. Once in Ohio she was then known as “Marcie”. In the late 1970’s, she pursued a career in Real Estate.

In 1993, she took the risk of her life and started her own business, Marcie and Associates Realty. For the next 22 years she established herself as a dedicated and influential business leader. She was viewed as an ambassador for Tiffin and was passionate about promoting our community as the perfect place to raise a family. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 54 years.

Marcie was involved in a number of organizations/honors including the Chamber of Commerce (Lifetime Achievement Award and Athena Award), Heidelberg University School of a Business (Lifetime Achievement Award) Rotary, St. Francis Convent/Home and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Sharing Kitchen.

She loved knitting, playing cards, cooking, painting, spending time at her lake house in NH and most of all, being Nana to her grandchildren.

Friends may visit with her family and share stories 4-8 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2020, at the Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

Her funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 36 Melmore St. Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-5848, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery for the immediate family.
