Mary Jean “Jean” Snyder, 95, of New Riegel, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 at The Willows at Tiffin.
She was born on August 19, 1925, in Landeck, Ohio, to Alphonse and Edna (Elchert) Etzkorn. On November 30, 1946, she married William O. Snyder and he preceded her in death on August 8, 1988.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry (Mary) Snyder of Tiffin; John (Denise) Snyder of Carey, and Jim (Lauren) Snyder of Upper St. Clair, PA; daughters, Nancy (Don) Burner of Tiffin and Peggy Robinette of Findlay; daughters-in-law, Jan Snyder of Bremen, IN and Cathy Snyder of Tiffin; sister, Betty Gaietto of Tiffin; 20 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 9 great, great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Robert Snyder, Don Snyder and Terry Snyder; son-in-law, Chuck Robinette; daughter-in-law, Jane Snyder; brothers, Urban Etzkorn and Harland Etzkorn; and grandson, Gregory Snyder.
Jean graduated in 1943 from New Riegel High School and in 1946 from St. Rita’s Hospital School of Nursing in Lima, Ohio. She worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital for 25 years and Tiffin Developmental Center for 10 years. She was a member of All Saints Parish (former member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown), Rosary Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, New Riegel Moose, St. Rita’s Hospital Alumni, Professional Nurses Club and Knights of Columbus Lady Knights and she enjoyed volunteering at Mercy Hospital, donating blood until the age of 90, traveling, flowers and sewing.
Her Funeral Mass will be private. The Mass can be livestreamed at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at www.allsaints-parish.com or on New Riegel All Saints Facebook page.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Riegel EMS & Fire, Flat Rock Care Center (7353 N. CR 29, Flat Rock, OH 44828) for “individuals needs and interests” or do an act of kindness in her memory.
