Matthew G. Chwalik

Matthew G. “Matt” Chwalik, 62, of Tiffin, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at his home, after nearly a two-year battle with brain cancer.

He was born on December 19, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Chester A. and Dorothy A. (Laicharoff) Chwalik.  On September 9, 1978, he married Martha M. Lonsway.

Survivors include his father, Chester A. Chwalik of Fostoria; wife, Martha Chwalik of Tiffin; son, Richard M. (Shannon) Chwalik of Tiffin; daughter, Katie M. DeWitt of Tiffin; brothers, David (Karen) Chwalik of Delaware and Chester Chwalik, Jr. of CA; sisters, Ann Marie (Gary) Jones and Sue (Bob) Doe, both of Fostoria; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Chwalik.

Matt graduated in 1976 from St. Wendelin High School.  He retired in 2015, after 30 years, from Whirlpool in Clyde as an assembler and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree.  Matt was a Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeye’s fan  and enjoyed attending OSU games with Robert J. Wilson before he passed away.  He enjoyed trips to the casino, going out to eat on Friday’s, his two dogs, Braxton and Ginger, was a collector of everything and loved his grandchildren.

His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419)447-2424. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 8:00 P.M.
