Melvin Eugene "Gene" Winters

Melvin Eugene “Gene” Winters, 87, of Tiffin, passed away on Thursday night, July 9, 2020 at Melech of LifePath Hospice House in Temple Terrance, FL.

He was born on February 27, 1933, in Marion, Ohio, to Melvin H. And Rosalie (Zeisler) Winters.  On June 26, 1955, in Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion, Ohio, he married Jane D. Leffler and she preceded him in death on May 5, 2011.

Survivors include his sons, Terry E. (Alison) Winters of Riverview, FL and Todd V. (Lori) Winters of Milan, MI; and grandchildren, Kristy (Chase) Lanway, Samantha Winters, Michael Winters, Kristine Hansen and Chase (Rebbecca) Hansen.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jerry B. Winters and Robert S. Winters.

Gene graduated in 1951 from Marion Harding High School and in 1955 from Bowling Green State University.  He was the president and CEO for 24 years at the Betty Jane Memorial Rehabilitation Center, a speech and hearing therapist teacher and football, basketball and golf coach in the Marion City and County school systems for 12 years, consultant for the State of Ohio as a specialist in the areas of speech, hearing and vision for one year and director/audiologist for six years at North Central Rehabilitation Center in Mansfield.  Gene was a member of First Lutheran Church, Tiffin Elks Lodge #94, Business Boosters, past president of Tiffin Area Chamber of Commerce and past president at Terra Technical College.

His Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. with Pastor Clayton J. Bailey officiating.  Entombment will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral on Friday at the funeral home
