Michael “Mike” J. Gabel, 74, of rural Tiffin, passed away December 31, 2021 in the Emergency Room at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.
On January 31, 1947 in Fremont, he was born to Melvin C. and Grace M. (Willey) Gabel. Mike never married.
Survivors include a sister, Karen (Harold) Smith, Jr. of Republic; brothers, Dick (Mary Ann) Gabel and Tom (Sally) Gabel both of Tiffin; brother-in-law, Harry Crosby, Jr. of Henderson, NV; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Gabel; sister, Janet Crosby; and sister-in-law, Eileen Gabel.
Mike was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel (Former member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Liberty) and a 1965 graduate of Old Fort High School. He graduated from Tiffin University in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree and enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1969 and served in Ethiopia. After returning, he was honorably discharged in October 1972. Mike was a CPA for years, owning 1040 Incorporated in Fostoria from 1982-2002. After retiring, he continued helping others with taxes. Mike was very independent and enjoyed going to auctions and collecting toy tractors.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Parish, New Riegel with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery with military honors by the Seneca County United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass.
