Norma Roush Obituary

Norma Jean Roush, 92, formerly of rural Bloomville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Tiffin Mercy Hospital surrounded by her five children.

She was born August 26, 1930 in Hopewell Township, Seneca County, to Neil Eugene and Leoda Alfreda Mary (Scherger) Glick.

Norma is survived by five children, Kevin R. (Sharon) Roush and Alan B. (Alice) Roush, both of rural Tiffin; Susan E. (Mark Prater) Roush of Kingston, RI; Robin R. (Steve) Pachuta of Eagan, MN, and Jean J. (Glen) Howard of Swanton; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, Lauren (Joshua) Seas and their children, Robert, Genesis and Cressida; Lesley Roush; Kimberly (Charles) Groth and their children, Neil, Cecilia and Jonathan; Bradley (Ahna) Roush and their children, Cameron, Jaymin and Grayson; Christopher Prater; David (Molly) Pachuta and their son Declan; Rebecca (Patrick) Maag and their children, Nora and Bridget; Elizabeth Howard and Anthony Howard; step-grandson, Brett (Monica) Romanko; and two step great-grandchildren.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bruce Roush in 2014; sister, Mary L. Glick; and great-grandson Gavreel Roush.

At ten, Norma moved with her parents to the farm in Eden Township that has remained in the family ever since.  At sixteen she graduated as valedictorian of her class from Melmore High School and began a job in the bookkeeping office at Tiffin Mercy Hospital.  She also caused her mother some chagrin by falling for the slightly rebellious neighbor boy, Robert Roush.  Bob bought a ring while serving in the U.S. Air Force in Germany and on January 6, 1954, during a one month furlough, he and Norma were married at the rectory of St. Joseph Parish in Tiffin.

They began their married life finishing up Bob’s enlistment at Fort Sumter, South Carolina before moving back to Ohio.  In 1956, after living briefly at Greenwich, they bought the house north of Chatfield that would be their home for the next fifty-eight years.  Norma took on the roles of mother and homemaker, but also continued to pursue her own interests and artistic talents.  Among her favorites were biographies of first ladies, books by David McCullough, art by Georgia O’Keefe, and the color red.  A basket holding her latest knitting project was always next to Norma’s chair, and the many blankets and sweaters she created will continue to warm and comfort her children and grandchildren for years to come.

Her Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Coci officiating.  A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Bascom.
