Norman Brickner, 92, of Weidman, MI and formerly of Bascom, passed away Saturday morning, July 30, 2022, at Crestwood Village in Mt. Pleasant.
On November 25, 1929, in Carey, OH he was born to Edward G. and Anna M. (Arend) Brickner. He married Alice Hottenstein on August 11, 1951, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Alice; son, Joe (Cathy) Brickner of Weidman, MI; daughter, Theresa Anne Whitmer (Toby Chase) of Hobart, IN; sister, Irene Boes of Alvada; four grandchildren, Sarah (Dustin) Kuipers, Jessica Brickner, Trent and Troy Chase, and one great-grandchild, Arabella Kuipers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond J. Brickner and two sisters, Esther Kotnick and Rosetta Strausbaugh.
Norman was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel and former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom and graduated from Hopewell Loudon High School in 1946 and later from Tiffin University. He worked at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria for over 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was an avid gardener all his life. He was past president and very active in the Ohio Gourd Society for 27 years and held the record for the Ohio’s longest gourd for many years.
His funeral service will be 12:00 PM, Friday, August 5, 2022, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory with Deacon Greg Siebenaller officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Friends and family may visit on Friday, August 5, 2022, from 10-12:00 PM at the funeral home.
