Rev. James E. Steinle, 94, of Tiffin and formerly of Delphos, passed away Saturday morning, May 23, 2020 at St. Francis Home.
He was born on April 18, 1926, in Delphos, Ohio to Elmer O. and Mary E. “Mayme” (Brady) Steinle and is survived by his sister, Margaret M. Gordon of Santa Barbara, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Julie A. Hotz and Ann S. Lang.
Rev. James Steinle entered seminary training for the priesthood at Saint Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana and St. Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati and graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati. He served the Toledo Diocese as an Assistant or Pastor at St. Rose of Lima, Perrysburg; St. Joseph, Tiffin; St. Joseph, Sylvania; St. Paul the Apostle, Norwalk, where he was also the Principal at St. Paul Central Catholic; St. Pius X, Sycamore; Most Pure Heart of Mary, Shelby; St. Stephen, Attica; St. Aloysius, Republic; St. Joseph, Galion; St. John the Baptist, Delphos; Our Lady of Mercy, Fayette; Our Lady of Fatima, Lyons and St. Bernard, New Washington.
The body will be received at 9:00 A.M. with prayers followed by visitation until 10:45 A.M. on Friday, May 29, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. with The Most Rev. Daniel E. Thomas, Bishop of Toledo, will preside.
Burial will be at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, May 29, 2020 in St. John The Evangelist Catholic Cemetery, East First Street, Delphos, Ohio 45833.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Delphos School Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
