Rodney L. “Rod” Gillmor, 71, of Old Fort, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital, from complications of the China Virus.
He was born on June 3, 1949, in Fremont, Ohio, to Ernest “Bill” and Leona (Hade) Gillmor. On August 12, 1969, he married Beverly Oakleaf.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Gillmor of Old Fort; sons Craig (Lisa) Gillmor and Chad “Bosco” (Sarah) Gillmor, both of Old Fort; daughter, Carrie (Eric) Havens of Fremont; brother, Duane “Pete” (Charlotte) Gillmor of Clyde; sisters, Kay Herbig of Clyde, Sharon (Eugene) Hasselbach and Susan Byrne, both of Fremont; and nine grandchildren, Garrett, Grant and Aniston Havens, Griffin and Madalynn Gillmor and Addy, Trevor, Brynn and Kinsley Gillmor; sister in law, Phyllis Gillmor of Fremont and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold “Bud” Gillmor and Rick Gillmor; and his dog, Sooner.
Rod graduated in 1968 from Old Fort High School and served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, stationed in Germany. He was a life-long farmer with a strong work ethic, farming at Gillmor Farms and operating Gillmor Farm Market. He was a former volunteer fireman with the Old Fort Fire Department, past board member of the Pleasant Union Cemetery, a member of Fremont Eagles #712 and the Green Springs American Legion Post #295. Rod was a little league coach for years, volunteered for everything, but never wanted any recognition. He was a humble man who touched a lot of lives. He will be greatly missed.
For those who knew Rod, he did not want anything for his funeral, but he is allowing his family to have a graveside service at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort. Family friend, Lindsay Sooy will be officiating. Please dress in farm attire and listen to many stories. Masks and social distancing will be observed.
Friends will and family will meet at the Old Fort Fire Station #1 starting at 9:00 AM. With the help of the Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department, Rod’s ashes will be taken to the cemetery in his favorite tractor.
