Ruth Marie (Magers) Meisner of Randall Residence Tiffin, OH passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022. She was 94 years old. She was preceded in death by Howard, her husband of 75 years and her youngest son, Jay. She is survived by three of her four children: Janet Ladrach (Dick) of Sugarcreek, Jeff Meisner, and Jean Smith (Mark), both of Tiffin. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Claire (Randy) Kandle, Emily (Nick) Shultz and Aaron Brady and Jill (Chris) Goddard and Lauren (Patrick) Stacy and 12 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was born on May 17, 1928, to Ralph and Alice Magers of Tiffin, OH. She was third oldest of 9 children: Mary Louise, Frank, Leroy, Jo, Nancy, Jack, Russell and Michael. Russell and Michael survive her. She lived on the family farm while going to school, graduating from Calvert High School in 1946. Also, during her high school years, she became accomplished at playing the accordion and she won prizes in reading. She met Howard through her older brother, Frank. Ruth and Howard were married at St. Mary’s Rectory, May 21, 1947. Besides raising four children, Ruth worked for 30 years at the GE plant in Tiffin, Ohio. Not one for indoor tasks, Ruth loved to be outside, pulling weeds in her flower beds, raking leaves, even hanging up clothes outside or washing windows. She encouraged her children, even down through the great grandchildren to go outside and play. She often ran races with the little ones.
She and Howard hosted card parties and she taught all her children to play cards, starting with solitaire, moving on to Euchre and Hearts. Ruth enjoyed being around people, often staying all day at the family pond during the summer. For major holidays, her large family gathered either at the VFW post in Greensprings or at the Bettsville golf course. In later years she became an avid cross word puzzle solver using a giant crossword puzzle dictionary.
She was a life-long member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a volunteer at Autumnwood Nursing Home for many years. She was always a good friend, driving people to church or just visiting with them. She went to all the weddings and graduations she could manage, remembering so many with cards when she couldn’t attend.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 2, 2022, at 1:00 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens.
