William J. "Bill" Herrig, 58, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday evening, November 29, 2012 at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

He was born on October 17, 1954 in Tiffin, Ohio to Albert and Philomenia (Spino) Herrig. On August 11, 1978, he married Tammy Gottfried.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy; son, Greg William Herrig of Tiffin; 2 daughters, Melissa Ann (Nathaniel) Freeborn of Helena and Stephanie Marie (Rob) Wooldridge of Hebron; brother, Robert Herrig of Tiffin; and 4 grandchildren McKenna, Olivia, Gabriel, and Benjamin.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Bill graduated in 1973 from Tiffin Calvert High School, attended Tiffin University and Heidelberg College and graduated from Bowling Green State University Practical School of Nursing as a paramedic. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and worked at Tiffin Developmental Center as an officer and currently worked for the Seneca County Sherriff's Department. Bill was with ECHO and Tiffin as a paramedic for years and was the Seneca County DARE officer. He also served as a chaplain for the Fraternal Order of Police Harold Fraley Lodge 128. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and Jeff Gordon and was a University of Michigan Fan. Bill enjoyed going to Disney World, scuba diving, camping at Meadowbrook, talking on HAM Radio under the name N8USI and loved his dog, Molly. He was a very honest and fair man and was very active in everything.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 3, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-5:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Wake service will begin at 1:30 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Seneca County Humane Society or to Friends of Meadowbrook Park.
